Critical Dialogue: Khoisan Identity & Recognition in Post-Apartheid South Africa

On 6 May 2025, Cornerstone Institute, in partnership with the Camissa Museum, hosted a powerful Critical Dialogue at the historic Castle of Good Hope: ā€œIndigenous or Traditional Recognition?: Khoisan Identity, Recognition and Its Implications in Post-Apartheid South Africa.ā€

The event brought together a distinguished panel of voices:

  • Prof. Nigel Penn – Historian & academic
  • Patric Tariq Mellet – Author, activist, and heritage specialist
  • Annelize Kotze – Researcher and cultural commentator
Moderated by Dr. Ncebakazi Mnukwana, the discussion explored how Khoi and San identities are framed, claimed, and often contested within contemporary South African discourse.

ā€œThis was more than a dialogue — it was an act of truth-telling and collective reflection.ā€

Together, the panel unpacked themes of historical erasure, recognition politics, and what it means to restore dignity to Indigenous heritage in a post-Apartheid context.

The conversation is now available online.
Watch. Reflect. Share. Let’s keep the dialogue alive.
