BACHELOR OF ARTS: PSYCHOLOGY Registration Certificate No 2001/HE08/006. SAQA ID: 87406 (376 CREDITS) The programme focuses on the theory and practice of psychology and counseling, personal development, family studies and broader mental health interventions. The programme helps students develop an integrated and relevant counseling praxis within the South African context. It also prepares students for further studies in psychology and trains them in foundational social research skills.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • National Senior Certificate with a bachelor’s pass or equivalent; • Matriculation Certificate (with university exemption) or equivalent; • Higher Certificate or an Advanced Certificate or Diploma in a cognate field.
ALTERNATIVE ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • National Senior Certificate or National Certificate Vocational with a diploma pass (or equivalent) combined with the results of the National Benchmark Test (NBT); • Mature age of 23 and over during the first year of studies and a National Senior Certificate (or equivalent); • The conditions of the Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy for access and the results of the NBT are determining factors for admission. Contact the admissions office regarding RPL; • Mature students (45 years or older) can be admitted, determined by the RPL conditions and the results of the NBT.
BACHELOR OF ARTS HONOURS IN PSYCHOLOGY: ACADEMIC Registration Certificate No 2001/HE08/006. SAQA ID: 79046 (130 CREDITS) The Bachelor of Arts Honours degree in Psychology: Academic is aimed at providing students with the advanced theoretical knowledge and applied skills in the field of psychology. Students enrolled in the programme will extend their undergraduate knowledge through the integration of theoretical knowledge with the development of social science research competencies and practical skills. The programme will focus on further developing students’ critical-analytical and problem-solving skills within the discipline, with application to the South African context.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • Candidate must have complied with all the requirements of an appropriate Bachelor’s degree or Postgraduate Diploma from a Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)-registered higher education institution before the beginning of the academic year for which he/she has enrolled; • Psychology III must have been passed with a minimum of 65%.
BACHELOR OF ARTS HONOURS IN PSYCHOLOGY: BPSYCH EQUIVALENT Registration Certificate No 2001/HE08/006. SAQA ID: 79046 (140 CREDITS) This programme responds to the need for trained and registered counselors and life skills facilitators in South Africa, with a particular focus on the psychological challenges presented in communities. The programme helps students develop an integrated and relevant counseling praxis. This programme offers a comprehensive practical placement, integrated with academic and professional training. This practicum forms part of the BPsych Equivalent programme and is completed during the period of study.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS • Candidate must have complied with all the requirements of an appropriate Bachelor’s degree or Postgraduate Diploma from a Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)-registered higher education institution before the beginning of the academic year for which he/she has been selected; • Psychology III must have been passed with a minimum of 65%.
HIGHER CERTIFICATE IN COMMUNITY COUNSELLING Registration Certificate No 2001/HE08/006. SAQA ID: 96413. (122/124 CREDITS)
This programme trains and equips lay counsellors to be knowledgeable and effective in making a difference in the mental health and well-being of individuals in a variety of settings, including churches, schools, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and faith-based organisations.
