As part of the 2024 Critical Dialogue series, Cornerstone Institute partnered with OUPSA to address one of South Africa’s most urgent educational challenges: early literacy in primary schools.

This dynamic session explored:

  • The root causes behind declining literacy rates
  • The consequences of under-resourced schools and inequitable access
  • Practical strategies to improve reading fluency and comprehension in the Foundation Phase
  • The importance of teacher training, home literacy support, and innovative publishing

The event underscored the urgent need for cross-sector collaboration to reimagine how literacy is taught, reminding us that empowering futures starts with literacy.
