The theme of our Winter School for Creatives is “Decolonisation and Economic Liberation”. Who better than Crain Soudien to open our Winter School on Tuesday, 27 June at 16h30 for 17h00 at Artscape? Crain’s topic is “Understanding Decolonisation”.

His session will be chaired by Heather Sonn and Claire Kelly will be the respondent.

Crain is the Chief Executive Officer of the Human Sciences Research Council and formerly a Deputy Vice-Chancellor at the University of Cape Town where he remains an emeritus professor in Education and African Studies. His publications in the areas of social difference, culture, education policy, comparative education, educational change, public history and popular culture include three books, four edited collections and over 190 articles, reviews, reports, and book chapters, including a 2017 publication entitled “Nelson Mandela: Comparative Perspectives on his Significance for Education”. He was educated at the Universities of Cape Town and UNISA and holds a PhD from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
